Rocklea Suburb Profile

Rocklea is an outer suburb of the City of Brisbane, located 12.4km southeast of the CBD by road or a 15-minute drive in off-peak traffic. Predominantly an industrial suburb, Rocklea has a small population of 1,595 people.

The only school in Rocklea is Rocklea State School, a public, co-ed primary school for children from prep to grade 6. The closest secondary schools can be found in the neighbouring suburbs of Corinda (Corinda State High School), Yeronga (Yeronga State High School), and Inala (Glenala State High School).

Rocklea is known for its popular markets selling fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers to wholesalers and retailers. The name ‘Rocklea’ is derived from the original suburb name of Rocky Waterholes Creek, which was deemed to be too lengthy. Previously part of the Shire of Yerongpilly, Rocklea became part of the City of Brisbane when it was established in 1925.
